The Panthers look to be aggressive this offseason with their franchise at stake. Many problems will need to get answered this offseason which means some unpopular moves will be expected. Trading their star offensive lineman was definitely not one that settled well with Panther fans with evidence all over social media but with trading Trai Turner, they receive 31-year-old, Russel Okung, from the Chargers.
Trai Turner has had an impressive career so far and will have many great years in front of him. At the age of just 26, he has managed to land himself in the pro bowl 5 different years from getting drafted in the 2014 draft in the third round to the Carolina Panthers. He has been a leader to this offensive line for years now and been one of the only bright spots for the Panthers line.
Russel Okung was the player Panthers received from the Chargers. At a concerning age of 31, Panther fans were obviously confused about the seemingly unbalanced trade. Okung was the sixth pick in the first round of the 2010 Draft by the Seattle Seahawks and has balanced from a few teams in his career. From 2010 to 2015, Okung remained with Seahawks before heading to Denver for the 2016 season, he signed with the Chargers in 2017 and remained there until today when he was traded to Carolina. Russel Okung is a Super Bowl XLVIII Champion when the Seahawks defeated the Broncos in dominating fashion. He has been to the pro bowl twice in his career, most recently in 2017 and has been a very reliable starter starting in all of the 118 games he played in.
Expect a big offseason for the Panthers due to the gaping holes in their starting lineup.
