The Los Angeles Wildcats lose their home opener to the Dallas Renegades 25-18. The loss put the Wildcats to 0-2 on the season with the undefeated DC Defenders coming to town next week.
Going into the fourth quarter, the score was 6-3 with the Renegades with the lead. Both teams scored 34 points in the fourth quarter. Wildcats quarterback Josh Johnson threw two touchdown passes to Nelson Spruce in the fourth quarter. Also, Los Angeles scored the first 3-point conversion in XFL history with a Johnson pass to Adonis Jennings, but it was not enough to beat the Renegades. The Wildcats lost two fumbles in the red zone, which helped cost them the game.
Dallas running Cameron Artis-Payne led the Renegades to victory with a 21 and 17 yards touchdown run int he fourth quarter. Artis-Payne finished with 99 yards on 14 carries. Renegades quarterback Landry Jones passed for one touchdown and also threw two interceptions in his first start.
The Wildcats defense gave up 444 total yards to the Renegades and 154 of those yards on the ground. Winson Moss must figure out something with the defense fast.
Nelson Spruce put together another solid game catching six passes for 89 yards and two touchdowns. Last week Spruce caught 11 passes, he is putting up huge numbers in the XFL so far.
Josh Johnson in first XFL passes for 196 yards on 18/34 passing. Also, Johnson threw two touchdown passes in the game as well. Johnson was a little rusty at first but came along nicely with a passer rating of 89.8. As the season goes on, Johnson will get better with more time.
