STAMFORD, Conn. (Ambush Sports/press release) — NBC Sports is utilizing an all-female crew to broadcast and produce game coverage of an upcoming game between the St. Louis Blues and Chicago Blackhawks, according to a press release Sunday.

The March 8 broadcast on NBC Sports Network coincides with International Women’s Day and will mark the first-ever NHL broadcast and produced solely by women.

Kate Scott will serve as a play-by-play commentator, joined by U.S. Olympic gold medalists Kendall Coyne-Schofield and AJ Mleczko as analysts for the game held at the United Center in Chicago.

Kathryn Tappen is anchoring studio coverage alongside Canadian Olympic gold medalist Jen Botterill, with production led by the production of Rene Hatlelid and the direction of Lisa Seltzer.

Tappen, a broadcast veteran, stated the following:

I’ve been broadcasting for 17 years, and yet, the very first broadcast I did with a female producer was just two years ago. The fact that we are celebrating International Women’s Day with an all-female broadcast and production team tells me how far we have come in a very short time. We hope our broadcast will help inspire young women watching to follow their dreams, because we’ve proven that anything is possible, and I’m proud to be a part of it.

Studio coverage will start with NHL Live at 7 p.m. Eastern, followed by the game. Coverage will continue afterward with the NHL Overtime broadcast.
