Today I’ll be talking about the Boston Bruins this season and why I think they’re the best team in the NHL right now.
The Background
The Boston Bruins are {44-14-12} with 100 points this season, but right now, the NHL season is canceled due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
First, let’s take a look at the Boston Bruins Roster, which I put down below.
The Recap Of The Season
Forwards & Goal Scoring
The Bruins are lead by David Pastrnak, who has 95 Points [48 Goals & 47 Assists]. Pastrnak also has 40 penalty minutes and a +21 Plus-Minus Ratio.
They are also led by Patrice Bergeron, a 1st Line Center; he has won the Frank J. Selke Trophy award four times. That honor is awarded annually to the NHL forward with the best defensive skills. He also has 56 Points { 31 Goals & 25 Assists]. Bergeron also has 28 penalty minutes this season and also has a +23 plus-minus ratio.
Defense
The defense is led by Captain Zdeno Chara, at 6’9 and he weighs 250 pounds. The defenceman came to Boston on July 1st, 2006, Chara, has 14 Points {5 Goals & 9 Assists]. This season
they also have Torey Krug, who is 5’9 And 185 Pounds. This season he had 49 Points {9 Goals & 40 Assists]. He also has 33 penalty minutes and also has a -4 Ratio.
Goaltending
Tuukka Rask is 26-8-6 this season. He has a 2.12 goal against average, and he also has five shutouts with a .929 save percentage.l He also won the 2013-2014 season’s Vezina Award for the best goaltender.
Coaching
The Bruins are coached by Bruce Cassidy. He is in his 3rd season but in his 2nd full season. Last year Bruce Cassidy led the Bruins to a 49-24-9 record, but the Bruins lost to the St Louis Blues in the Stanley Cup Finals. He has also coached the Washington Capitals, where he made the playoffs once but lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the conference quarterfinals in six games.
My Thoughts
I think the Boston Bruins would have had a great run in the playoffs had the season not ended abruptly, but there are other great teams who can give Boston a solid match up like Tampa Bay or Winnipeg. These are match-ups I would love to have seen if we had the playoffs.
