The Oakland Raiders beat the Chicago Bears last Sunday 24-21, without both starting receivers Tyrell Williams and J.J Nelson. Also injured is Dwayne Harris receiver and returner. With receivers hurting, the Raiders went out and acquired receiver Zay Jones from the Buffalo Bills. The move will cost the Raiders a 2021 fifth-round draft pick.

The Bills drafted Jones in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft. In his rookie season with the Bills, Jones caught 27 passes for 316 yards and two touchdowns. Jones led the Bills in all receiving categories in 2018, with 56 catches, 652 receiving yards, and seven touchdowns. So far this season, he only has seven catches for 69 yards.
Oakland have been winning games by running the football well, but as the season goes on, they will need some help from the receiving core to make running the ball smoother. With Williams and Nelson injured for the London game, the Raiders started Trevor Davis and Keelan Doss. Also, the Raiders used recently called up Marcell Ateman and rookie Hunter Renfrow.
Jones runs a 4.4 forty time and gives the Raiders another speed receiver they need on the outside. He also has some size to him at 6’2 200 pounds. Hopefully, with a fresh start with the Raiders, Jones can come into his own and be closer to the receiver he was in 2018. Raider’s general manager Mike Mayock was a fan of Jones in the 2017 NFL Draft and had him ranked fourth of all the receivers in the draft.
In his short career, Jones had caught 90 passes, for 1037 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. If jones comes in and works hard; he will get a shot to make plays for Oakland. If he plays well, it would be good for the Raiders and take some heat off Tyrell Willams and Darren Waller. The Raiders have a bye this week, so its plenty of time for Jones to get the playbook down and probably play next week in Green Bay.
