There has been a lot going on in WWE recently. From the 2019 King of the Ring Tournament, NXT moving to the USA Network, all the way down to SmackDown’s big move to FOX. With all of this happening, changes have been made everywhere. You name it, and they’ve adjusted it. Whether it’s been rewriting storylines, bringing in new talent, shaking up the creative team backstage, or even bringing back WWE superstars that you didn’t expect. Speaking of which, this week in WWE, the WWE Universe got to witness quite a few returns during the Clash of Champions PPV weekend.
That being said, here is a list of the WWE superstars that have recently come back to WWE TV:
1) Luke Harper
This one came as quite the shock to the entire WWE Universe. You see, on the 16th of April 2019, Luke Harper sent out this tweet:
— . (@LukeHarperWWE) April 16, 2019
As you can clearly read in his tweet, Luke Harper formally requested his release from WWE and blasted it on his social media. At one point, Luke Harper was not alone as multiple other superstars, including Tye Dillinger, Goldust, and more had done just the same. Although, unlike Dillinger and Goldust, Luke Harper’s request for release had not been granted. Instead, Harper’s contract was extended by a number of months due to an injury that he had suffered. On top of that, WWE showed no hesitation in giving Luke Harper little to no TV time following his request. This being the case, it was assumed by just about everyone that Luke Harper would pretty much just sit on the shelf as punishment until his contract expired with WWE and end in Harper not resigning with the company.
With all of that being said, you could only imagine how surprised the WWE Universe was when Luke Harper returned and came to the aid of his former Wyatt Family member and “Bludgeon Brother” Erick Rowen at Clash of Champions.
On the Monday Night RAW following the Clash of Champions PPV event, the WWE Universe witnessed the return of the Bulgarian Brute Rusev.
Rusev is another superstar who has been notably frustrated with WWE as of late and has been very vocal about his frustrations on social media, in interviews, and pretty much any place that Rusev could voice his frustration. Despite all of that, Rusev has reappeared on WWE TV Programming.
For his return, Rusev was pulled into the current Mike & Maria Kanellis storyline. The Street Profits hosted a gender reveal party on RAW backstage where Maria then told Mike that he wasn’t the father of the child and that Ricochet is. Mike challenged Ricochet to a match, met him in the ring, and then loss. Following the loss, Maria came out and declared that Ricochet was not the real father and said that it was somebody else. She then brought the “real father” out by motioning to the stage and out comes Rusev. If we’re honest, the placement of Rusev’s return was a bit weird.
Nonetheless, it’s good to have him back! We don’t quite know all of the details regarding his return, but we can tell that he is at least making TV appearances again. Rusev also notably came out without his wife, Lana. One is to wonder how she feels about this storyline as well as why she didn’t come back with Rusev.

3) The Authors Of Pain (AOP)
When it comes to WWE TV, it has involved very little of AOP in a number of months. In fact, The Authors Of Pain haven’t been seen in a match in WWE since BEFORE Wrestlemania. That’s at least six months of AOP not being on TV. Now, unlike Luke Harper and Rusev that were mentioned above, The Authors Of Pain were not MIA due to complications with WWE. The real reason that AOP hasn’t been seen on WWE TV since before Wrestlemania is that Akam was out of action due to a leg injury.
The Authors Of Pain made their return to WWE TV on the same exact night that Rusev did. AOP was featured in a promo video where they spoke in their native language and put the WWE Locker Room on notice.

4) Brock Lesnar
Brock Lesnar hasn’t been seen in WWE since losing the Universal Championship to Seth Rollins at Summerslam back in August. For an ordinary WWE superstar, that’s a bit of time to be away. For someone like Brock Lesnar however, that’s not really a long time considering his track record. Lesnar is infamous for being in and out of WWE and only showing up when it is absolutely necessary. He usually only works a number of shows a year and makes limited TV and PPV appearances. That being said, this could be one of those times. It has been rumored since the initial announcement of Smack Down’s move to FOX that Brock would be a big candidate to carry the title on the blue brand to maintain strong viewership from FOX’s regular audience.
That brings us to the return of the Beast. Brock Lesnar appeared with his advocate Paul Heyman following a match between The New Day and the team of Randy Orton and The Revival. They marched down to the ring, greeted Kofi, said a few choice words and then proceeded to challenge Kofi Kingston for the WWE Championship on the debut of Smackdown on FOX on October 4th, 2019. That’s it! Those are all of the superstars that made a comeback during the Clash of Champions PPV weekend. Out of all of these returns, which one are you most excited about? Which one surprised you the most?
