San Antonio Commanders (-5) vs. Salt Lake Stallions

This Saturday night, in the middle of all the NCCAB March Madness, there will be what some consider the Alliance of American Football game of the week. At 8 pm eastern on the NFL Network, we will see the San Antonio Commanders taking on the Salt Lake Stallions at the Alamodome. San Antonio will be looking for their fourth win in a row, while Salt Lake looks to add to their second win of the season.

Former Toledo QB Logan Woodside is coming into this game leading an offense that is starting to become one of the most cohesive units in the AAF. Woodside is now only second to Orlando’s Garrett Gilbert in passing years with 1189. He still only has 6 TD passes with 6 interceptions, but most of those missteps came at the beginning of the season. The Commanders are a completely different team now and with the success Woodside and WR McKay they are locked into first place in the West.

Last week San Antonio had one of the best all-around performances with a 37-6 beatdown of the Atlanta Legends. This week they will be facing off against the Stallions, who are starting to come around offensively as well. Last week Salt Lake was able to defeat the slumping Express 22-9. QB Josh Woodrum went 24/37 for 243 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. In the last two weeks the Stallions have put up a combines 47 points and their offense has continued to improve. Unfortunately, they haven’t faced a defense as strong as San Antonios.

San Antonio Defensive Coordinator Jim Grobe has made improvements to the defense every week, and they have put their focus on creating turnovers. They have recorded 12 interceptions so far this year, and they are continuously putting pressure on opposing QBs. Woodrum isn’t going to have as much time to throw the ball as he had last week, and this might be key for the Commanders to come away with a win.

I think that turnovers are going to be what makes the difference in this game. The Commanders are back home, where we can expect at least 27 000 people (unless they are all watching basketball). Home field plus the recent performance of their QB makes me believe that the Commanders will be able to come away with the win. Woodrum will be forced to throw the ball into tight windows, and I think the Commanders will be able to come away with the ball more than once. The over/under is once again only 40.5. Take the Commanders and the over again this week.

San Antonio 28 Salt Lake 16

* Some other games that I like this week:

Orlando Apollos(-8) 27 Atlanta Legends 15
Birmingham Iron (-3) 16 Memphis Express 9
San Diego vs. Arizona over 39.5
