Almost 40,000 Fans Watch UAB Remain Undefeated at Home!

UAB didn’t start the season with a bang. The team struggled to find points and gave up big plays on defense. However, “a win is a win.” The Blazers will definitely take the win.

The Blazers struggled to dominate the line of scrimmage against their FCS opponent, Alabama State. Spencer Brown lead UAB on the ground with 77 yards on 23 carries, but found running room to be difficult. Alabama State actually took a 13-7 lead in the first quarter, before UAB’s Myron Mitchell electrified the crowd with a 98-yard kick return to take the lead 14-13. UAB never trailed again and took a 24-13 half time lead to the locker room.

Duran Bell lead the Hornets on an outstanding comeback effort in the second half. Bell finished the game with 112 yards on just 10 carries. However, UAB held off the Hornets late to take the win 24-19.

UAB is still undefeated at home since their return (13-0) to the gridiron. The Blazers will try to improve their performance next weekend against Akron on the road. The game will be televised by CBS Network at 11 a.m. Central Time.
