The 2019 NFL draft had tons of defensive talent, a lot of defensive lineman depth. The linebackers were top-heavy, and the defensive back group was deep as well. It will be a lot of players to choose from to win the Defensive Rookie of the Year, here are five players that will have a good chance at it.
Devin White Linebacker Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Devin White was drafted fifth overall by the Buccaneers. He has speed and athletic ability, along with a tremendous work ethic. WIth Vita Vea and Ndamankong Suh taking up space, it will give White the freedom to use his speed to make plays. White runs a 4.4 40 and should be primed to get 100 plus tackles this season.
Nick Bosa Defensive End San Francisco 49ers
Nick Bosa is strong and uses his hands well, two good traits for a defensive lineman. The question is can Bosa stay healthy enough to be on the field. The 49ers have some young talent on their defensive line that could free Bosa up for one on one matchups
Devin Bush Linebacker Pittsburg Steelers
Devin Bush is another speedy linebacker with good instincts. Bush will be stepping in to fill the role of Ryan Shazier. Bush has a tremendous upside; it is up to the steelers to pull all the talent out of him. The former Michigan linebacker has the skills to be an all-around linebacker. Bush can rush the passer and can even drop back in coverage and be successful.
Quinnen Williams Defensive Tackle New York Jets
Quinnen Williams was arguably the best player in the draft. He has outstanding quickness and athleticism for a guy his size. With Leonard Williams playing next to Williams, the jets should have dynamic defensive front. Quinnen Williams should see a lot of one on one matchups and should thrive in those situations.
Brian Burns Edge Carolina Panthers
Brian Burns is my dark horse. Bruns has good get off and knows how to bend the corner with the lower body. The one question mark when Burns was drafted was his size; he added 25 pounds since being drafted. It will be interesting to see how the Panthers will use him.
