The New York Streets is a new expansion team this year for the NAL. They played the Jacksonville Sharks tonight, in Jacksonville and the Streets sure lived up to the hype!
The Sharks are the 2017 NAL champions, and former Arena Bowl champions while they were part of the AFL. Quarterback Jonathan Bane leads the Sharks. Bane who indubitably has one of the biggest arms in the league, he had a good game but came up short.
The New York Streets led by EJ Nemeth at quarterback ran the streets of Jacksonville, defeating the Sharks with a final of 52 to 37. Nemeth’s favorite target seemed to be Rob Jones tonight targeting him over half of the time.
Nemeth is a 12-year arena football veteran. Nemeth started playing back in 2007 with the now-defunct Reading Express. He won three arena football championships in 2010,2013 and 2015. He has also won MVP or player of the year four times. It is safe to say that Nemeth is a great starter and leads teams very well.
Billy Deane, the kicker for the Streets, has a boot and scored two Deuces tonight. Although he missed two extra points, the misses were a result of bad holds it looked like. Deane plays with a lot of energy on the field and is a great player to boot play downfield for a Deuce.
Defensively, Herbert Moore, the big defensive tackle had an interception which was game-deciding, because it was so late in the game. The whole Streets defense looked like they will forge together and take aim on many more victories.
The Streets will take on the Orlando Predators next Saturday at 7 pm in New York. This will be a hard-fought game because the Predators looked great tonight in their inaugural NAL game as well. Will the New York Streets continue to run the streets in their opening home game? Find out in my pre-game article later in the week.
