The San Diego Fleet beat the Salt Lake City Stallons Saturday night 27-25. The Fleet won on last second 44-yard field goal from Donny Hageman as time expired. It was Hagman’s third field goal of the night. Although the Fleet’s defense gave up 25 points, they led the team to a victory scoring 12 points themselves.

Former San Diego State star Kameron Kelly had three interceptions, returning one for a touchdown. The Fleet defense also recovered two fumbles, one for a touchdown by Jordan Martin. The Fleet defense forced five turnovers and still needed a last-second field goal to win the game.

The Stallons heald the Fleet’s rushing attack in check. The Rushing attack ran for only 31 yards on 23 carries. Quarterback Mike Bercovici threw for 304 yards on 22 of 43 passing, with one touchdown and one interception.  The 304 yards passing was good, but Bercovici completed only %51 of his passes not very good. He missed some throws that should have been completed.

Fleet defensive end Damontre Moore had two sacks, one of them being a sack-fumble recovered by Moore himself. The turnover led to a Bercovici touchdown pass.

Stallons quarterback Josh Woodrum threw for 380 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions. The fleet gave up a lot of passing yards but was able to hold on.

With a defensive performance, where you force five turnovers and score two defensive touchdowns the game should not be close. The Fleet offense needs to do better job scoring touchdowns in the red zone and not to settle for field goals. Settling for field goals can cost you the game like it almost did the Fleet.

Also, Bercovici needs to be more accurate; there were a lot of plays where receivers were getting open, but Bercovici could not get the player the ball. The rushing attack has not been good in the last two weeks if the Fleet wants to go on a run they need to get the running attack going.
