As everyone knows the Red Sox won the 2018 World Series! With that said there’s a lot to be discussed in the off-season. Free agency for some of our star players unfortunately happens. There are a few notable free agents I’d like to talk about!
First up is right-handed relief pitcher Joe Kelly, with a record of 4-2 and a 4.39 ERA in 2018, there were talks that he was exploring the open market. Kelly signed a three-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers earlier this week! I’m sad to see him go after he shined brightly in the postseason with a record of 2-1 and 0.79 ERA!
Next up is a right-handed starter and relief pitcher Nathan Eovaldi. Eovaldi with a record of 6-7 and a 3.81 ERA in 2018, was solid all year. Nathan was particularly outstanding through the 2018 playoffs, standing out with a 2-1 record and a 1.61 ERA in 6 appearances! I’m happy to say that the Red Sox re-signed him to a four-year contract extension, bringing the firearm back to Boston!
Last on my watch list is right-handed closing pitcher Craig Kimbrel. With a record of 5-1, 42 saves and a 2.74 ERA in 2018, he was a critical piece during the regular season! Kimbrel struggled in the postseason though, leaving one question on the table. Does Boston want to give him the contract he’s looking for? According to ESPN, he’s seeking a contract of at least six years. Should the Red Sox go all in on Kimbrel, or explore the market in this off-season?
