Saturday, October 5th, 2019, we will see the Penn State Nittany Lions(4-0) face off against the injury-ridden Purdue Boilermakers(1-3). After last weeks showing off party against Maryland, Penn State should have no problem playing Purdue to add on to the misery for the Boilermakers their Starting QB Elijah Sindelar got the news he broke his clavicle. On top of all of this, their defense ranks 108th in points given up per game to go along with only scoring 29.2 themselves per game. (75th)
Speaking of QB’s let us take a look at Sean Clifford. Expect to see him continue his dominance. Although it is hard to show up his 398 yards 3 TD performance last week at Maryland. If you can say anything about Sean, it’s that he is maturing each week and gaining confidence after every completion. Going up against a defense this week that gives up 296.5 yards per game, expect to see Sean and “The human joystick” K.J Hammler connect for some massive yardage.
Another thing to look out for is the four-headed rushing attack of the Lions. With the four of them rushing for a combined 27 attempts and 109 yards, we should see them gash Purdue’s run defense, which is allowing 154.5 yards per game. With Journey listed as questionable, we could see Devyn Ford take those 7-9 more carries this week.
Now we turn to the defensive side of the ball and, most importantly, Michah Parsons. Yes, he is back for this game following his targeting call last week against Maryland. This imposing Middle Linebacker leads this top 5 defense allowing only 7.5 points per game. With the Boilermakers without their starting QB and leading receiver, I don’t see any feasible way they can move the ball down the field. When you compare Penn State’s yards given up per game (274.5) to Purdue’s 420.0, the defense shouldn’t have a problem stuffing Purdue all afternoon.
Keys to victory
Don’t fall into the trap OSU fell into last year win OSU lost 49-20.
Continue to maintain a balance between the rushing and passing game.
Stay healthy and mistake-free.
If Penn State can achieve these goals, they should have a similar result to last week.
Penn State is favored by 28.5 points on bovada as opposed to last week; they were favored by 6.5, and we all know what happened last week, so get your popcorn ready folks.
