Bellator 201 Preview

Headlining the Bellator 201 event in Temecula, CA is the Women’s Flyweight World Title. That isn’t the only exciting match on the promotions card though. We will also get the opportunity to see Saad Awad and Kristina Williams both on 3 and 2 win streaks, respectively. Let’s roll up our sleeves and check out these sweet matchups!
Juan Archuleta (18-1) vs. Robbie Peralta (19-8)

We kick off the main card with a battle between two veteran fighters. Archuleta is coming into the bout on a 13 fight win streak, while Peralta just recovered from a four fight skid with a unanimous decision against Shad Smith in his last fight. Archuleta is a pressure fighter that will not let Peralta breathe from bell to bell. If Peralta can survive the storm and establish a bit of distance with jabs and front kicks he may be able to grind this out to a decision.
PREDICTION: Juan Archuleta (RND 2) TKO
Valerie Letourneau (9-6) vs. Kristina Williams (2-0)

Letourneau is a very good combination fighter, but Williams is a straight sniper. This is a difference of style that can always be interesting. Letourneau will be looking to use her fantastic combos to close distance and possibly body up to avoid the precision strikes of Williams. Letourneau does have an advantage in the number of fights she has been in (15), something Williams can not lean on (2). Williams is coming off of a win against a very good fighter in Emily Ducote, whose other 2 losses in Bellator have come from Flyweight champion Ilema-Lei McFarlane. This is a fight that I am excited for, as it will help establish the Women’s Flyweight division.
PREDICTION: Kristina Williams (RND 1) TKO
Saad Awad (22-9) vs. Ryan Couture (11-5)

You may recognize a name in this match, and it may not be the Bellator veteran Saad Awad. Ryan Couture, UFC legend Randy Couture’s son, steps back into the Bellator cage to take on a very lethal Saad Awad. The “Assasin” Awad touts 31 fights to Couture’s 16, and with virtually double the fights comes experience, but… We cant overlook the experience one could gain from growing up in a Hall of Famer’s household. For an apples to apples comparison, both fighters have faced Patricky Freire (Pitbull), both resulting in losses. Saad was defeated by unanimous decision, while Couture lost via 1st round knockout. The “Assassin’s” ground game is solid enough, and his standup can be lethal which is why I am giving Saad the nod in this one.
PREDICTION: Saad Awad (RND 2) TKO
Ilima-Lei MacFarlane (7-0) vs. Alejandra Lara (7-1)

While MMA continues to grow, it isn’t always on the backs of the Male fighters. This is just another example of a phenomenal fight between two brilliant female fighters. With 14 wins and only one loss between the two (and only 3 decisions) this fight is unlikely to make it to the judges scorecards. Ilima-Lei will throw everything she has got to defend her title against a surging Lara. Lara has three TKO victories as well as three submission victories. MacFarlane has four submission victories to only one TKO stoppage. This is a great stylistic matchup and I can not wait to see how it plays out!
PREDICTION: Ilime-Lei MacFarlane (Rnd 1) Sub
