2020 WNBA Top 10 Draft Picks

Friday, April 17th was the 2020 WNBA Draft. So many talented college athletes got to hear their names called. These talented ladies got to have their dreams come true to now play for the WNBA. The WNBA started the draft by honoring the young ladies that lost their lives on January 26th, 2020 due to a horrific helicopter crash. That crash claimed the lives of nine individuals, which included the legendary Kobe Bryant. The WNBA honored the three young rising stars by doing an honorary draft for the deceased. The young women were Alyssa Ahobolli, Gianna Bryant and Payton Chester. All three of their names were called by the WNBA commissioner and they each had a jersey with their names on the back.

Due to the COVID-19 virus, this year WNBA draft had to be done virtually. These players participated in the first professional league virtual draft. Several women were sitting at home with their families anxiously waiting to hear their names called. The Top 10 draft picks of the 2020 WNBA draft are the following;

  1. Sabrina Ionescu from University Oregon is heading to Brooklyn, New York to play for the New York Liberty.

  2. Satou Sabally from University Oregon is heading to Dallas, Texas to play for the Dallas Texas.

  3. Lauren Cox from Baylor University is heading to Indianapolis, Indiana to play for the Indiana Fever

  4. Chennedy Carter from Texas A&M University is heading to Atlanta, Georgia to play for the Atlanta Dream.

  5. Bella Alarie from Princeton University to head to Dallas, Texas to play for the Dallas Wings.

  6. Mikiah Herbert Harrigan from South Carolina to head to Minneapolis, Minnesota to play for the Minnesota Lynx

  7. Tyasha Harris from South Carolina to head to Dallas, Texas to play for the Dallas Wings.

  8. Ruthy Hebard from University Oregon to head to Chicago, Illinois to play for the Chicago Sky.

  9. Megan Walker from the University of Connecticut is heading to Brooklyn, New York to play for the New York Liberty.

  10. Jocelyn Willoughby from Virginia University to head to Phoenix, Arizona to play for the Phoenix Mercury.

All 36 players that were selected are overjoyed to be joining such a phenomenal league. This is the first class of players since the new collective bargaining agreement has been put in place. The New York Liberty has added some serious weapons to their team. Analysis and fans can not wait to see how New York does this season. Unfortunately, the season is still on hold for further notice due to the COVID-19 virus.
