English fans can rejoice at the return of the Premier League. While it’s expected to be a two-horse race between Manchester City, the defending champions, and Liverpool, the defending European champions, as always you can never truly predict what happens in the premier league. With the first match week in the books we see Liverpool; not surprisingly defeat Norwich City in the first match of the season.
Manchester City also recorded a win with their 5-0 destruction of West Ham United. This result is what many people have begun to expect of a side that is managed by Pep Guardiola. Manchester United played host to Chelsea FC, and besides the teams being rivals, the mangers of both parties are familiar with each other, having faced each other as players of the respective teams that they were managing. Chelsea has recently brought in Frank Lampard from Derby County FC, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was handed the reins of Manchester United after having held the position as an interim manager after Jose Mourinho was tossed from the spot following a poor run of results.
With the two teams, Chelsea was just unable to hold off the attack of Manchester United. Manchester United was able to score four goals and walk away from Old Trafford having won their first match of the season. With the recent departure of Romelu Lukaku, some wondered if Manchester United was going to be able to score goals. However, there appeared to be no issues on Saturday.
Burnley FC, Tottenham Hot Spurs, and Arsenal FC also won their matches with Leicester City, Everton, and Bournemouth walking away with points as they tied their matches to round out the rest of the results for the first week of the premier league.
