Orlando City played MLS newest team FC Cincinnati at Orlando City stadium, and the Lions did not disappoint the home fans as they walked out 5-1 winners with goals coming from Tesho Akindele, Nani, and Dom Dwyer. The game was a personal one for Orlando City head coach James O’Connor who was in charge of Louisville FC before taking the helm at Orlando.
Despite the move from the USL to MLS Coach O’Connor still enjoys beating his old team’s rivals, and it showed as Orlando City trounced Cincinnati despite the away team taking an early goal in the 24th minute through Darren Mattocks. That would be the last goal that Cincinnati would have at Orlando City as Orlando took control and didn’t let go, dominating possession, shots, shots on goal, passes and pass accuracy were all in favor of Orlando City Lions.
The first half was held to a 1-1 draw but when the second half started the purple smoke began, and Cincinnati stood no chance as Tesho Akindele added to his goal from the 37th minute by adding another in the 64th minute. In the time between those goals from Tesho, Nani showed why Orlando City brought him in with two goals scored within ten minutes of each other as he scored in the 50th and 59th minute.
Nani was taking off in the 66th minute, and Dom Dwyer was brought on to replace him. He also was in the mood for a goal as he scored a late one in the 82nd minute securing the win for Orlando. Orlando City will play host to Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the LA Galaxy on Friday at 7 pm in Orlando City stadium.
