UFC Fight Night 152 takes place at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, NY.  The main event is a five-round fight in the welterweight division featuring former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos (28-11-0) facing off against Kevin “The Motown Phenom” Lee (17-4-0). RDA is looking to get his first win since December 16, 2017, dropping two unanimous decisions to Colby Covington and current welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. Both Covington and Usman are strong wrestlers, and RDA faces just that in Kevin Lee, who is similar in height but has an astounding seven-inch reach advantage. This will be Lee’s first fight at welterweight after consistently struggling to make weight at 155 lbs.

The co-main features Antonio Carlos Junior (10-2-0, 1NC) taking on Ian Heinish (12-1-0).  Carlos Junior is one of the top BJJ black belts in the promotion and is on a five-fight win streak with the last three by way of submission. Ian Heinisch is coming off a decision win over BJJ black belt Cesar Ferreira. Should be an interesting matchup as Ian Heinisch has experience and wins over high-level black belts. Other fights include a third fight between Charles Oliver and Nik Lentz, and Megan Anderson faces former Invicta featherweight champion, Felicia Spencer.

Picks- Current Record 10-6

Rafael dos Anjos vs. Kevin Lee

RDA has lost his last two fights to wrestlers. Kevin Lee is a wrestler but with a very different style then Usman and Covington. Usman and Covington have a more relentless pressure and tend to wear opponents down whereas Lee is more of a take your back kind of guy. Lee has shown cardio issues at 155 pounds, and until he shows otherwise, I think the problem will still be there at 170. I think RDA will be able to get up from the takedowns and avoid any rear-naked choke attempts. He has cardio for days, and Lee likes to stand in open space a little too much. I think Lee slows down and gets finished in the 4th or 5th round.

Pick: RDA late TKO.

Antonio Carlos Junior vs. Ian Heinisch

Antonio Carlos Junior is super dangerous on the ground and has proven that in his last few fights. Ian Heinisch has proved on more than one occasion that he can deal with a guy of Carlos Junior ‘s pedigree. I think Heinisch avoids a scary first rd. and gets the stoppage in the 2nd or 3rd rd.

Pick: Ian Heinisch, late TKO.

Others

Megan Anderson over Felicia Spencer
Vincent Luque over Derrick Krantz
Charles Oliveria over Nik Lentz
David Ramos over Austin Hubbard

UFC Fight Night 152 Guest Picks by Todd Maddox (ASN MMA) – Current Record 17-8

Rafael dos Anjos vs. Kevin Lee

Interested to see how Kevin Lee fairs at 170 lbs. He struggled to make weight at 155 lbs. and you wonder how much of an impact that had on his cardio in past fights. Lee will be looking to utilize his wrestling as RDA struggled in consecutive losses to wrestling studs Usman and Covington. One should not underestimate RDA’s takedown defense, though, and he can get back up. Usman and Covington are more relentless than Lee in their takedown attempts, in my opinion. I see RDA stuffing the takedown attempts, or the takedowns being short-lived, and Lee gasses, leading to a stoppage by RDA.

Pick: RDA mid round KO.

Antonio Carlos Junior vs. Ian Heinisch

Antonio Carlos Junior is a monster at 185 lbs. and has finished opponents inside of 2 rounds in his last three fights. Heinisch must weather the early storm and try to take this one into deeper waters. One must think that Heinisch has the better gas tank, but ACJ will find a way to get this one to the ground early and will find a way to inflict his slick ground game.

Pick: Antonio Carlos Junior by early submission.
