Who Will The Cardinals Take At Number 1?

2019 NFL Draft Trade Scenario

The Arizona Cardinals have the first overall pick in the NFL Draft on April 25. There are many different ways they can go; they can draft at that position or even trade down to acquire more picks. In this article, I will review three players the Cardinals could draft.

Kyler Murray – Quarterback – Oklahoma

The Cardinals drafted quarterback Josh Rosen last season, which would make drafting a quarterback this year a head-scratcher.  The reason it is possible is that the Cardinals hired Kliff Kingsbury as head coach this off-season. Kingsbury runs an air raid offense, which Kyler Murray would fit perfectly in. Murray is 5’10 205 pounds, so there are questions about handling the NFL’s physical play. Although small, Murray’s combination of talent and athleticism allows him to work inside and outside the pocket. The former Sooner quarterback has the arm strength and the ability to deliver the ball accurately.

Nick Bosa – Defensive end – Ohio State

Nick Bosa would give the Cardinals another quality edge rusher; he would join Chandler Jones and Terrell Suggs on the defensive line. Bosa is arguably the best player in the draft. He is a high motor defensive end and can play in 3-4 or 4-3 systems. Bosa is strong and knows how to use his hands to get rid of defenders; It will be hard to block him with a single blocker. There are some injury concerns, having missed most of the 2018 season with a core muscle injury. But he looks healthy and ready to go. Pairing Bosa with Suggs and Jones would give him perfect mentors and veteran players that can show him the ropes as an NFL pass rusher.

Quinnen  Williams – Defensive Tackle – Alabama

Quinnen Williams is another guy that is possibly the best player in the draft. Williams had 71 tackles and eight sacks last season for Alabama. Willaims uses his hands well to disengage from blockers. Another plus for Williams is he can destroy double teams, which is critical when anchoring the middle of a defense at the point of attack. The former Alabama star is a generational type talent, could be an Aaron Donald like a player if he reaches his ceiling. Williams would help the Cardinals defense stop the run and even rush the passer. Williams best football is still ahead of him and that is very scary.

Conclusion

If I were the Cardinals, I would roll with Rosen and draft Williams, Bosa, or even trade down to get more picks. More picks would allow the Cardinals to get more talent to build around Rosen. It will be interesting to see what the Cardinals will do with the number one pick.
