DC United paid a visit to Orlando city, and it was a disappointing eastern conference fight for the fans of the Lions as a Wayne Rooney led DC United walked out of Orlando City stadium with 3 points in hand. DC United struck early in the 6th minute with defender Steven Birnbaum scoring a goal with an assist coming from Wayne Rooney, and before the end of the first half Wayne Rooney also scored a goal for himself to make the match a two-goal affair before halftime. To make the goal worse, it came from a senseless challenge by Orlando City’s Lamine Sane who was given a yellow card and allowed Wayne Rooney a chance at goal. As many teams in the premier league learned before his arrival here in MLS, you do not give Wayne Rooney those chances as he will not only take them but more often than not he will convert them.
The second half began, and Orlando City looked a little slow, so some changes were made in the 59th minute as Sacha Klestjan, and Oriol Rossell made way for Christopher Mueller and Jhengson Mendez. The substitutes breathed new life into the team as Dom Dwyer struck only 4 minutes after the changes making the game a one-goal affair and gave Orlando City a chance for a tie, but alas it was not to be. Orlando City, however, were the more firing team with 16 shots but they were only able to put 5 on goal and of those 5 on goal just 1 crossed the line, whereas DC United may not have had as many chances, but they made those count as they only had 4 shots, but 3 were on goal and 2 crossed the line. Orlando City was also able to dominate possession with 55% but was unable to find a way to penetrate the defense of DC United. Orlando City faces Tim Howard and the Colorado Rapids at Orlando city on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at Orlando City stadium at 730 pm.
