Bellator 206 Breakdown

Saturday Night at SAP Center was a historic night for Bellator MMA. Bellator 206 was the premiere show on DAZN for the promotion.

The main card offered six bouts including a champion versus champion super fight. This was, by all means, a legit super fight. Only one match on the card went the distance. The prelims showcased some exciting fights featuring talented prospects and contenders.

One of the first things that stood out was the excellent production in the pre-show, between fights, and post-show. The broadcast team had a few mistakes during commentary but did great overall. The buildup during the night for the main event was done well. This DAZN show had a big card feel to it.

The SAP Center also brought in celebrities such as 50 Cent and two-division UFC champion, Daniel Cormier. Also at the show was reigning Flyweight champion Ilima Lei Macfarlane.

There were lots of highlight moments during the night. Arlene Blencowe and Keri Melendez demonstrated vicious slams to their opponents. While prospects like Cass Bell and Gaston Bolanos picked up highlights finishes.
Aaron Pico proved himself as the real deal when he destroyed Leandro Higo in the first round by TKO. Douglas Lima captured a dramatic fifth-round submission against Andrey Koreshkov. Koreshkov refused to tap and ended up getting choked unconscious. Lima secured his spot in the Welterweight Grand Prix Semi-finals.

Two legends continued a historic rivalry in the co-main event. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson got the TKO against longtime rival Wanderlei Silva in the second round. In the post-conference, Jackson shared his interest in a Heavyweight title fight.

On one of the most anticipated fights in Bellator MMA history, we witnessed Gegard Mousasi dominate Rory MacDonald. Mousasi utilized a jab that connected consistently on Macdonald. After winning the first round, Mousasi continued his attack on Macdonald which caused him to shoot an Imanari Roll and end up on his back. Mousasi cut through his guard and executed his ground and pound. After multiple unanswered blows, Mousasi got the TKO in the second round to retain his Middleweight title.

Overall, the DAZN premiere of Bellator 206 was an exciting must-watch event. The fights delivered in great moments and highlight reel knockouts. There are things DAZN will have to work on such as their signal in certain regions, which I’m sure they will do.

I’m excited to see how DAZN and Bellator MMA deliver in Hawaii, can they carry on this success? We will see.
